[Opinions] Re: Arusha
in reply to a message by link
Ari, Roo/Ru, Rushie, Rusha, Aru, Ash, Asha, Ashie, etc.I much prefer Jerusha and Aretha to Arusha, which sounds like an odd mix of the two to my ears.Array

I second the suggestions of Jerusha. It's a name with history behind it.

I like Asha, thanks. Arusha is actually a place name in Tanzania, (where my husband and I got engaged) so I'm sure it wouldn't be a familiar sound to too many people. I've never heard of Jerusha though, it's nice, but too similar to Jerusalem to me.

In case you didn't know: according to Adrian Room's African Place Names, the city of Arusha was named after the Arusha tribe, but the meaning of the tribal name is unknown.

I didn't know that, Thanks!

That's a nice reason to use it--I appreciate the name more, now that I know where it's from and why you'd consider it. :)Array
