[Opinions] Merrikat
I came across this name recently. WDYT of Merrikat for a girl?

I made the mistake of googling it and what comes up is that it's a "ship name" relating to a couple of boys in a band. At least, on the internet it is. Bleah.
Aside from that, it strikes me as synthetic and fictiony - kind of like Renesmee, Arrietty, Danaerys, or Katniss, and about as usable.
It also reminds me of the words American, Marrakesh, and meerkat.
For Mary Katherine, Marikat could be created and would seem less forced IMO.

Meerkat?
Hi !!!
This name is too complex for me. And I don't know its origin or nothing else about it. I prefer just Merry.

Merricat
was how it was spelt in the book. It's a good story - gently creepy. Interesting as an nn, but not something I'd use.

Oh THAT'S why I recognized the name!
Yes, it's an excellent read!
Her real name was Mary Katherine, wasn't it? And her sister was Constance "Connie". And I think the cat was called Jonas?

I haven't started it yet but it's on the "to read" pile :)
My first thought was also "meerkat".
However, I would love to know the pronunciation. It is kinda pretty and reminds me of Nadine's middle name, Marikit.

I've only seen this name written but I would pronounce it as Merry-cat.
I would have said "mer-ih-ket".
merry-cat makes tons of sense.

It looks like someone on drugs tried to write "meerkat" (as in, the animal).
