[Opinions] Re: English word names - WDYT?
Acacia: I don't like it, but it could definitely work. You could even use Casey for a nn.
Adore: A door.
Alchemy: Ugly word, not namey at all.
Allure: Stick a bill in her G-string and call it a night.
Amanita (a genus of mushrooms) Poisonous mushrooms too, from what I hear. Just use ANita.
Amaranth: That nth just looks ugly, like it ought to be Amarantha, or just Amara.
Amber: Beautiful.
Amethyst: Not the nicest of jewel names.
Ametrine (a type of quartz) It sounds more like some kind of enzyme in food.
Amnesty: Ugly sound.
Apple: Dumb. I don't care if Gwyneth Paltrow did use it; she's dumb too.
Apprentice: You're fired.
Arrow: And her brother Bow.
Aspen: Not a fan.
Asphodel: Very 1990's goth.
Autumn: Gorgeous.
Avenue: Dumb.
Azure: Pretty color but not a very pretty sound.
Belladonna: I briefly rode the school bus with a girl who later became a famous porn star calling herself Belladonna. It's very theatrical and tacky. Her sister should be Amanita.
Beryl: Very old British woman. Sounds like barrel.
Blessing: A bit too desperate.
Bliss: Manages to seem tacky and old-ladyish at the same time.
Blue: Seems like every dumb celebrity is sticking Blue or Bleu or Blu onto their kids. It's a name for a dog, if you can't think of something better.
Bluebell: And this is a name for a My Little Pony.
Briar: Ugly sound, ugly image.
Brook: It really needs that e on the end; add it and it's fine.
Bryony: Doesn't look nice and any possible pronunciation sounds unattractive.
Butterfly: "Miss Scarlett, I don't know nothin' bout birthin' no babies!"
Cadence: Kind of ridiculous.
Calico: Cutesy, like a stuffed cat.
Calypso: Might make a fun pet's name.
Candle: Seems very random and silly.
Canna: Pretty flower but not a real good name.
Caory: No idea what this is supposed to be or how it's said, but it first made me wonder if it was cowrie, like the shell. In any case, the cow sound is off-putting. Cori is better.
Cedar: Not a name.
Celandine: Overdone.
Celestial: Like Blessing, it's just too desperately calling attention to itself.
Cerulean: Love the color, but don't like it as a name.
Chalet: Silly. Like naming somebody Condo.
Chance: Mannish. Hyper-sexy mannish.
Chanterelle: Well, at least they aren't poisonous. But it sounds like a name somebody made up back in like 1982 when Chanelle and Chantelle were popular, and they didn't know it was a mushroom.
Chardonnay: She does her show right after Allure.
Chateau: Chalet's twin. Ugh.
Cherish: Again, desperate.
Cherry: Very fifties, very tacky.
Chrysanthemum: If i never see another mention of this "name" again, I'll be happy,
Cinnabar: Poisonous. Also sounds like a granola bar.
Cinnamon: Tacky.
Clemency: The ax-murderer asks for this and usually doesn't get it.
Clover: Good name for a cow.
Coriander: Just stick with Cori.
Cricket: Ridiculous and pet-like. I do know a woman in her seventies whose nn is Cricket. Her real name's Ollie. Her husband's nn is Tick. A regular bug farm.
Daffodil: Lame.
Dahlia: Very posh and pompous.
Daisy: Cute, but a bit too cute.
Day: Sounds like it's waiting for some other sounds.
Defiance: I don't like defiance in a child. Or an adult.
Destiny: Cheesy.
Deuce: Deuce Bigelow, American gigolo.
Diamond: It's got a certain appeal to it.
Dolphin: Not as a name.
Dream: Silly.
Dust: Um, nobody likes dust. It makes a mess and makes you sneeze and you're always having to clean it up.You're entitled to your own opinions. You're not entitled to your own facts. -- Daniel Patrick Moynihan

Ah, the shell is spelled Cowrie...I thought it was spelled Caory. The Swedish spelling is kaori.
