No joke, just read this in the obits. She was a woman in her 50s, born and raised in northern IL, all family surnames appear to be German and Irish.
Never seen anything like it before in my life! It's so unusual I thought I should share it here :)

That's one of the ugliest names I've ever seen. It looks like "obeast" crossed with "fetus", or like "oh, beat us".

I don't like it..especially not for a woman.
But I think it's a christian, church related thing.. Beatus means "blessed (one)" in latin and maybe "Oh Beatus" is a church song?

I was wondering the same thing honestly. When googling it I came to the conclusion her parents were either fans of Roman poets or Catholic hymns lol

I wondered that myself, but beatus is the nominative - 'Oh blessed' would be vocative: o beate. It's just plain weird...

I really find it really awful. The -us ending makes me think of a male name, so seeing it on a woman is a bit strange.
The only way I can see this name being used, is ad a male MN.

I wonder the origin of the name. It looks very Latin Medieval to me (and masculine).
