[Opinions] Donatella/Donella
My top name for a hypothetical son is Donato. It honours my beloved grandfather and fits most of my other criteria for a name (uncommon but not out-there, recognizably Italian but not too hard to pronounce in other languages).WDYT of Donatella, the female version, which would serve the same honouring purposes (my grandma actually suggested it to my mum, who didn't really like it and thought it didn't work with my surname, which has D's and L's)? I find that -ella names are bit too frilly, but Donatella has its charm. I've been reading "A Song of Ice and Fire" and came across a minor character named Donella. I thought it would make a cute nickname/variant for Donatella."We have to live without sympathy, don't we? That's impossible of course. We act it to one another, all this hardness; but we aren't like that really, I mean...one can't be out in the cold all the time; one has to come in from the cold...d'you see what I mean?”

I like Donato!
It is way better than Donald which I have always disliked even before I associated it with Trump. I have also never liked Ronald, even though I care for it more than Donald, but for some reason I like Ronalda. I think it's because with Ronalda the emphasis is different.Sorry I am getting sidetracked.I like Donatella. I feel that it is very pretty. Also it is the female version of the name of the famous artist and it reminds me the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle that is named after the artist - which is a good association in my mind.Donella is nice but I prefer Donatella. Donella is pretty but it feels a bit boring compared to Donatella which is more musical in sound. I went to high school with a girl named Donnell so Donella reminds of her. It also reminds me of the male character Donnel from Fire Emblem Awakening. I actually forgot about the character Donella from A Song of Ice and Fire until you guys reminded me.

Donald had a dated, silly vibe even before Trump, as in, Donald Duck.

Hi !!!Yes..Donatella is good to honouring your grandfather.
I think it could be fresher than Donato on a boy.Donella? No!
I read that book series too..
But Donella Hornwood had a terrible destiny..
I think it is better using
Donatella. It is more similar to Donato. After that Donella is too similar to donnola and I'm afraid that people always will tell you 'oh..Donatella!' while their children will teasing her because of a name that nobody has ever seen before and that also is an animal-like name.Finally.. I like strange names too. But I think that they should have a meaning for you.So
Donella is unknown, animal-like and after that this character died in an horrible way.Donatella is quite dated yes but it is perfect for your aim.

I don't like it to be honest, it seems too frilly and over the top. I usually love frilly names but this is just too much for me. It is also a one person's name to me, I only think of Donatella Versace. But in Italy it is probably a regular name. When I met a 17 year old with this name not too long ago I was really surprised. I guess I didn't even think that Donatella was Donatella Versace's real name and that it was actually used as a given name. It seemed like a brand name to me or something. It sounds like a brand for lipstick or make-up or something. So I personally don't like it, sorry :(

Yeah I was wondering about D. Versace too, but a) it's not that bad an association b) in Italy it's common enough that it wont be the sole association people have.
