[Opinions] Nicole
What do you think of Nicole? I used to really dislike it but when I think of a little girl in Paris or something it has some charm to it :) I am half French and it is very dated to the 40s in France (1940s that is, not people in their 40s) but it is very slowly starting to sound fresh to me again. In the US and many other countries its popularity started a lot later, so I am curious, what do you think of Nicole? Do you like the nickname Nikki and how would you spell it? (Nicky, Nicki, Niki, Nikki etc.).

It's my name. I've grown to like it, I used t associate it with American cheerleaders when I was younger and that's really not who I am since I'm more of a tomboy. I was called Nicki among friends when I was a kid, and Nick by my closest friend. There's only one who calls me Nicci now and I hate that spelling. I never really liked Nicki in the first place. I'm also called Nicolina by other friend, but mostly it's just Nicole.
Edit: I have two surnames, one of them is french. I usually go by the other one though, but I've always liked that there's a connection between my FN and LN.

I like it a lot, with the French pronunciation - the short 'col' sound is much nicer and sweeter to me than the drawn-out 'coal' sound often used in English. I've only known two Nicoles ever (both French by birth but not by upbringing - not sure of ages but both under 45) and they were both nice people, so I have no negative impressions of it.I don't love Nicky however you spell it, but don't hate it.

Saying it in French, one's mouth does different things. In English, I find it impossible to say "Nicole" with a smile; the corners of my mouth just automatically droop. Also, I dislike most spondees. I like Nicola, and where I live there's little chance of encountering a male Nicola, so if it came to using a Nicol- name, it'd be Nicola for sure.I would use the Nicky spelling, but doesn't the nickname-owner pretty much decide?
