[Opinions] Jessie
Ok, last week I was all into the name Eve and this week it's Jessie. I think Jessie is the sweetest name. The problem is, I don't like Jessica or Jessamine or Jessa. Can anyone think of another name Jessie can be short for? What do you think of Jessie in general?ETA: I see it used to be a nickname for Jean. I don't like that either, haha.

This is probably a bit of a stretch, but why not use it as a distant diminutive for Stephanie / Stephan? I would only think to offer this if you would only use Jessie as a nick-name for a more formal first name. I know Stephen / Stephan has Steve & Stevie, Ann & Anne, and Stephanie has Steve & Stevie, Ann, & Anne & Annie bearing the same set of similar diminutives - however, throughout life, I have naturally called a few Stephanie's "Steph", without known protest, yet I've sometimes asked myself or the "Stephanie" who's name I'd just butchered whether she likes the abbreviated moniker.

Justine, Giselle, Jezebel? Reaching a little now.If it would be a nickname for Jean, it could be a nickname for any J name.
Joanna, Josephine?I like Jessie, but I like it short for Jessica or Jessamine.
I had a great-aunt Jessie whose name was just Jessie. She was called Jay.

Oddly, in some internet comments last night I saw someone named Jessaria. Doesn't really seem like something you'd like, but I think it was funny that I saw it after this question.

Fine on a child, a bit immature on an adult

Jessie is great and I like it as a full name. I mean, you have the male Jesse and that's a full name, so why can't Jessie work in the same regard?

I like it and think it's fine on its own. My mother had a cousin Jessie, named after her mother, both full names.
Jacinta? Jasmine? Jezebel?

I love Jessica, but never liked Jessie. It sounds hillbilly and drab. (On a boy, as opposed to Jesse, which is nice, Jessie just seems redneck.)
Jesenia? Jesslyn? Jasmine, even?

If it used to be a nn for Jean, maybe it could be a nn for Jane? Probably a bit of a stretch though!Jessenia

I love Jessie, but I can't think of any names it could be short for besides the ones listed. /:

I feel pretty much the same. I think it's so lovely and sweet, but I don't like any of the longer versions and I don't think it works on its own. I really like Jesse for a boy though. It sounds very...hard-working-down-to-earth-nice-guy to me and I love that.

I had the same problem as you a few years ago. I always liked Jessie. To me Jessie is a charming, old fashioned name that it underused. I know there are lots of Jessicas around, but the ones I knew/know always either went by Jessica or Jess so it seems underused to me. It just reminds me of the early 1900s, I would put it in the same category as Virginia or Mabel.I also don't care for Jessica. Jessamine is cute but it doesn't work well where I live and Jessa is very Jessa Duggar. How about:Jessamy
Jesslyn
JesseniaJean nn Jessie just doesn't work anymore. I considered all of these full names and in the end decided I would go with just plain Jessie. It is a bit nickname-ish but not like Fifi or Dodo or something so I think it works just fine. Jessie Rose was my favorite, but I love Rose in general.

Well... Jessie seems to have first arisen as a Scottish nickname for Jean / Jeanne. But that might be a bit difficult to make stick today.

I can't think of anything that isn't a stretch, but maybe Jacinda? What about Jesslyn ha ha?
