[Opinions] Hevyn!?
I was reading a newspaper article about a young mother, Starr. Her daughter, 4, was Hevyn. Just thought I'd share...I'm not a fan of it.

So bad taste in names is hereditary.
LOL
Apparently so. Example: my bio mom's given name is traditionally a nn. She gave my 1/2 sister a nn as a given name, too. Oh, and she alliterated the fn & mn (one of my pet naming peeves).
Married male co-worker: "Wanna come over to my place for lunch today?"
Me: "Thanks, but I don't think that would be appropriate."
Him: "What do you think I'm gonna do, lure you into the bedroom with a hotdog?"
(Pause)
Him: "Ok, bad analogy."

Not a name that I would use, but the pronunciation is fairly obvious. It would be possible to pronounce that spelling as "Hee-vin", but I doubt if very many people will ever make that mistake.
There are quite a few people who believe that when one is converting a common vocabulary word into a child's name that one should give it a different spelling, because in their mind that's what differentiates the "word" from the "name".

Disagree.
It makes your life even more miserable. I had a common vocabulary word for a name - and being able to say "spelt just like the word" made life easier.
Mispelling a name just makes you look ignortant, period.

Were "Mispelling" and "ignortant" deliberate? :) That's the funniest spelled comment I've seen in a long time.

No, they weren't.
I'm very LD.

Well,.
I don't think Siri intended to misspell those words, but it did make for a pretty snappy response, didn't it? :o)

EW. That's terrible.
Eww, just majorly eww. As if Heaven isn't bad enough. I mean no offense to those that like it, I personally don't think it's that bad as a middle name but as a first name, you're not leaving your kid many options.

*Shakes fist* This kind of thing gives young moms a bad rap in the naming department! Let me tell you, if I had dropped a kid at 14 they wouldn't have been named this kind of atrocity!
I don't like Heaven at all, but at least it'd be literate.

I'd like to think that if this was my name
I'd think up a good lie to detract from it being a bastardization of Heaven. Maybe I'd tweak the pronuncation a bit and tell people it was Welsh.

And if one absolutely HAD to use Heaven, lets spell it the real way, shall we? lol.

You mean Klaccii?
She's probably Hevyn's sister.

Good lord, that's awful.

When will people realize naming a child should not be taken lightly, not treated as a joke?

You know what I think is worse?
I doubt she was joking. :-/ It was probably just the *most* beautiful name she could think of. Once again, I :-/ at the idea.

I'd have to agree...
I mean, come on! Both those names sound utterly idiotic.

Celia didn't mean star, it meant "heaven." And remember that spelling has only been a "set" thing for everyday words since the 1700s. In medieval times, the word was frequently spelled "starr", as is shown by the fact that Starr is by far the most common spelling of the English surname that is based on this word. :)
Ack, you got me!
My brain isn't working very well today, and I did forget that Celia means "heaven". Duh...

I don't really like it either.
