[Opinions] Gioia and Giada (more)
Two Italian names that have been on my mind - Gioia and Giada. What do you think of them?As far as I know they are pronounced JOY-a and JAH-da and the Italian words for 'joy' and 'jade' but often used as names.Which impressions do you get from the names? Any colors/associations etc.? Oh and if you are from Italy, how are the names perceived there? Are they dated, modern, classic? Are they tacky/trashy?Thanks :)

Love Gioia! (As you can see in my sig, we used it!)This is a first name AND surname in Italy, though the surname is usually more popular as DiGioia. Gioia also used to be a brand of pasta and sauces in the US, with the "o" in the shape of a heart on the box. (sigh, nostalgia). Pronunciation is JOY-ah for most people, though technically more like Joe-yah said fast. This is an honoring name in my family. Giada is quite pretty. I considered using it. It's becoming more famous because of the TV chef Giada (Food Network) in the US. Plus, people tend to recognize it... so I think it works better as a name for English-speakers.

Not too crazy about Giada, but I think Gioia is lovely. And since my family is of primarily Italian descent it wouldn't be out of place. The only thing I'd worry about is other people misspelling her name from all the vowels.

I love the sound of both but am not a huge fan of how they look, especially Gioia. The "gioi" combination is very odd-looking to me.

It confuses the heck out of people! (in the U.S.)I grew up with this name and people were always trying to add consonants to it.
Giola was the most common, followed by Gloria. Huge number of holiday and birthday cards from people with the wrong spelling. But the sound is so pretty you have to like it. "Joiya" ;)

Hi !!!Giada is simply overused.
It is quite tacky as well.
I dislike it also because the most of Giada I know are unfriendly so this is another reason for saying no.
They are not dated at all but they are 1990s.Gioia..
It is very modern so it risks to be childish (because a lot of Gioia are actually still children).
But I quite like it.
It shines and seems elegant.
I also like Serena and Letizia so this is nice as well. But Serena is better.Giada has a 5
Gioia... 7
Serena has a 10 it would be one of my first choice in future.
