Family Name: Fraser
DW [62]: Johanna 'Hanna' Lisanne (Vandoorne) Fraser
DH [62]: Gilbert Theodore Fraser
DD1 [34]: Elisabeth 'Else' Lara Fraser
DD2 [27]: Annette 'Annie' Justine Fraser
DD3 [24]: Matilda 'Mattie' Josephine Fraser
Hanna and Gilbert met when they were very young; they reckon they were about 3. It wasn't exactly love at first sight (it rarely is with 3 year olds!). More a case of, mercilessly tease each other and make snide comments in a language the other doesn't understand. Hanna's from the Netherlands, and always spoke Dutch at home. Gilbert's French mother and Scottish father divorced when he was a baby, and so he split his time pretty evenly between speaking French and English. After several years of relentless teasing, the two became best friends, and eventually married aged 22. Eventually, they had 3 daughters, and decided that theirs lives were utterly perfect!
Else is always known as the sensible sister. She's a patient, responsible woman, but a lot of people pin her down as boring and somewhat stupid; those people forget that she's an incredibly sharp politic journalist, with an incredible ability to cut through politician's waffle. Her current job is doing just that. She's working on a podcast which makes politics accessible to all, simplifying complex issue in an unbiased way. She loves her job, but still feels a part of her has been missing since the end of her last serious relationship four years ago. Else knows it was for the best, and that neither she nor her boyfriend would have been happy if they'd stayed together, but she still misses him. She's recently realised that a family might be off the table for her, and so she's been plunging her heart and soul into her work instead.
Annie's considered to be the sweet, sensitive one. She can be pretty shy (some might even say aloof), but no one's ever doubted her reliability and loyalty. Annie's always loved kids, and dreams of having plenty of her own one day. She's been pretty down after the collapse of her marriage. She truly loved her husband, but apparently he didn't love her quite as much: the discovery of a string of affairs stretching back to the first year they were together and continuing right up to the present was too much for her, and the divorce as finalised on the grounds of adultery.
Mattie's the wild child! She's the unapologetic, creative, sometimes very irresponsible sister. Her degree in Musical Theatre has not yet translated into a job on the West End, although Mattie knows she's talented - she's been told often enough. And so, she's been working whatever she can, as a theatre tech this month, a typist the next. (She hates the typist months). Mattie's never been in a serious relationship. The word serious goes against everything she stands for! Of course, there's been the odd fling here and there, and she's had a making-eye-contact-and-smiling thing going on with the cute girl who works at the coffee shop for a few weeks now, but she's not thought about a family. That kind of permanency scares her a little.
