Dorothy is lovely, but Dot as a nickname is too associated with the EastEnders character for me. Outside the UK, probably not an issue. Grace is fine, but overused as a middle name. It goes well with Dorothy, though. I prefer Dorothea to Dorothy, nn Dora or Thea. Dora works for Dorothy, but Thea would be a stretch. That said, I prefer Theodora to Dorothea, currently.

Yeah, I prefer Theodora too but this is for my friend's bub and she isn't as taken by Theodora. Also, not in the UK so the EastEnders character isn't an issue. Dot will mainly be a family nickname, not an "all the time" nickname and part of the appeal of Dorothy for her and her husband is that it has a few nickname options :)
