It's always a thrill when a name unexpectedly gets your approval hehe :)
Dot will be a family nickname for the most part. They love Dorothy enough that I don't see them using a nickname exclusively at all. I think part of the appeal for my friend with Dot/Dottie as a fun nickname is the character from 'A League of Their Own', one of her favorite movies.
