[Opinions] Re: Italian names 2017
in reply to a message by Felie
I like Morgana but there is something dark about it. Maybe the nickname Morgy would help to make it friendlier? I dislike Rosalba (and Alba) because in Austria the word 'albern' means 'silly'. Giorgia is nice but very very overused in Italy so I would stay away from it.Ginevra - overused
Elettra - too much, makes me think of electricity
Rebecca - very nice and not too overused
Rachele - a bit harsh, I prefer Rachel with the English pronunciation but not in ItalyLinda - I like it a lot, I think of linden trees
Marta - a bit boring
Bianca - very nice but getting crazy common in Italy
Delia - never liked the sound
Agnese - nice but I prefer Agnes
Angelica - okay nothing more
Nicole - super common, will be super datedSara - pretty but completely overused, starting to sound dated
Sarah - in Italy she would just always have to correct the spellingSilvia - dated
Asia - trendy will be dated
Emma - overusedAurora - so so so nice but sooooo overused
Gioia - nice
Gaia - common
Matilde - nice
Adele - nooo it is just too tied to the singer nowIsabel - Isabella is prettierTessa - noooo so harsh!
Jana, Yana - this was crazy common in Austria in the 80s/90s so I know lots and lots! Bland and overused to me.
Leda - noooo
Ada - nice but a bit too strong and grown up for a child, maybe
Margot - I only like the French pronunciation and the spelling Margaux
Freya - Freja looks cuter to me.
Leila - niceMargherita - nice classic but I always think of the pizza
Margareth - looks misspelled and odd
Marzia - no
Miriam - niceAlba - no, see RosalbaAnna - overused
Celeste - cute but not a favoriteOkay, let's see. First of all I am surprised people suggest things like Silvia. Does the fashion in Italy change very slowly? Silvia seems very dated to me so I am surprised anyone would suggest it for a baby. Would be like suggesting Amanda or something to an American for a child born soon :)First of all I would eliminate all the dated names (these are the ones I think are dated in Italy according to statistics, but not sure you know better than me!):Silvia
Marzia
Sara, Sarah (I guess not quite yet, but soon)
Rosalba? Then I would eliminate the super common names:Anna
Emma
Ginevra
Gaia
Aurora
Giorgia
NicoleThen the ones that are too trendy:Asia
Nicole as wellThe ones associated with a single person:AdeleThe ones that seem a bit like they don't fit in well with Italian surnames etc.:Margareth
Margot
Isabel - it is ok, but Isabella sounds more melodic with Italian surnames
Tessa
Jana
Yana
LedaThe ones that are rising too quickly:BiancaThis leaves, after taking out the ones I don't like:Rebecca
Morgana
Linda
Celeste
Ada
Leila
Gioia
MatildeI would go with Rebecca, Linda, Gioia or Matilde. I just like these best. I would also use Bianca. It is common but it is so pretty.
