[Opinions] Anemone
Do you think Anemone is usable/practical? Would you relegate it to the middle name position or proudly place it upfront?ETA: I think a vanity license plate that said ANEMONE would be sort of delightful.

I'm not to fond of the English pronounciation of Anemone, but I really like the French pronounciation, an-eh-MON. There is a French World Cup alpine ski racer called Anemone Marmottan.

Every time I hear or read this I think of Finding Nemo. So unless you don't mind that connotation, it's whatever. I do think it's unusable unless it's on, like, a mermaid.

I used to love Anemone, but at some point it started sounding like "an enemy" to me, and since then I haven't been able to take it seriously. I think it's kind of eccentric and difficult to pronounce for some people, but not enough so that it's unusable. If I was going to use it, I'd prefer it as a FN, because I really like Nem / Nim as a nickname.

I don't think its usable as a name on a human being. Dog, cat, fish, sure.

I once knew a Biology teacher, not a mother-tongue speaker of English but teaching successfully at an English-medium school, who stunned her classes by pronouncing it Annie-Moan. They were perfectly polite, got out as fast as they could and checked with me and no doubt other members of the English department: I told them that they were 15 and she had a degree and a teaching qualification, so they should be able to cope, and cope they did. But it made Anemone a high-risk word and therefore name for me and I'd certainly cloister it in the mn position, if at all.

Anemone is one of those names/words I just gave up on as a kid, and only now have bothered to learn how to say, but it has been helped by being into names. Like Chrysanthemum. But Anemone has too much n and m for me, so I'd keep it in the middle.

I almost used it for a character once. I'd like to see it as a middle name on someone else, I wouldn't use it though. It does have a lot of practical nicknames though... Anne, Annie, Mona, etc. How many people think of the plant vs. the sea creature first when they hear "anemone"? I used to always think of sea anemones first but now I think of the plant first and sea anemones right after.

I really like it! I'd proudly place anything up front, to be honest: Dido, Sappho, Lalage, Fiammetta, Parthenope, etc.

Anemone is ok. It's quirky and fresh but a real tongue twister! I think of the sea creatures rather than the flower on first impressions. Saying it fast 5 times it sounds more like "an enemy"! I think it's usable, but in the middle name spot.

I think it's a real tongue twister and I would never use it at all, but if I had to use it or die, it would be in the middle name spot.

I was just thinking of this name!I definitely think it's usable. I don't see anything wrong with it! I think it would be fine in the first or middle position.

I wouldn't use it myself but I think it's really cute. Totally usable! You could always use Annie as a nickname. It's fine as a first name, I would like to see it used. But it also makes a nice unexpected middle name especially with a common first name such as Chloe Anemone or Sara Anemone. It sounds enough like a combo of Anne and Mona or something to work as a first name too.

I think it's usable and practical at about the same level as Hermione and Athena are. It's easy to say once you learn it so in that sense, it's better than Ariadne or Aurora.
I personally would put it in the middle name position, just because otherwise it begs to be shortened (and mispronounced). And Annie doesn't thrill me, neither does Mona or Nem or anything else I can get out of it.

Honestly all I can think of is sea anemones so I don't feel that's its usable at all.

Definitely middle. Too much of a mouthful as a first name.
