Tamara is ok, but I much prefer Tamar.

I like Tamara b/c it is not trendy or overused but an old name.It makes me think of a Russian femme fatale, but I like the name allthesame.Tammy sounds kind of childish to me, I prefer the full name. But maybe the nn Tammy is unavoidable in English-speaking countries."But it’s all right now.

All of the Tamaras I know (pronounced either tah-MARE-ah or TAM-ah-rah) go by Tammy/Tammi/Tami which I greatly dislike. I'm not particularly fond of Tamara, either pronunciation, even without the possible nn, though. It's just ok to me. However, I do agree with Bear that Tamar is lovely.

I instantly think of the show Sister, Sister which I loooooooved as a kid! With Tia and Tamara, the twins :-) and lil cutie Roger! That was a great show... I like how it's pronounced there as well - tuh-mar-ahThere's a new horror movie out now called Tamara but they pronounce it "tam-er-ah" which I hate. It sounds so ugly that way.All in all, it's a nice name but I'd never use it personally.

Ahh... I never saw it spelled out that much and that's just what I heard, I suppose :-) What I said still stands though.
