[Opinions] Perry (m)
Trying to come up with an honor name for Penny, I thought of Perry for a boy. I like it, but I'm not sure of some possible associations people might have with the name. What do you think of Perry? Does it go well with brothers named Warren and Lee?

Danno used the words stuffy, privileged, and outdated, and I have to kind of agree. That's because, for whatever reason, my first association is from Top Gun. The guy that Charlie is dating when Maverick starts hitting on her is named Perry. We only see him for a brief second, so my opinion is based mostly on how he is described by Maverick, who is obviously trying to talk her out of her date with him, so...I do have this mental image of a stuffy, preppy guy. And of course, the name is dated now. If I think about it a bit longer, I remember Perry White--Lois & Clark's boss at the Daily Planet. There have been a number of different iterations of him, of course. And if I think a bit more, I can picture a cute little boy of about 5 years with brown hair. I don't mind it on a little boy, but I don't see it growing with him well. Also, I don't like how similar it is to Barry.

I adore breezy, fun Perry. I think it goes very well with brothers Warren & Lee

I have an uncle named Perry but since he absolutely doesn't care for it, he always goes by his middle name, which is Paul. I don't blame him. To me Perry just sounds like one of those stuffy & privileged sounding names as well as being outdated. I can't envision a young and modern perry for the life of me. The name also just sounds bland and unattractive. It doesn't go well with the other names IMOMy associations: (besides my uncle of course)
Perry the platapouse
Dr. Perry Cox from Scrubs (LOVE that show)

Yep. We can blame my maternal grandparents for that haha. About the only reason for their choice of Perry is because they were in such a rhyming spree with their other kids names, or more so grandmother was. Undoubtedly, Perry would have received another name if not for "My-children's-names-must match-obnoxiously" decision.Harry (Jr)
Larry
Barry
Perry 'Paul'
Mary 'Cookie'
Sherry 'Penny'
Molly & Polly (Twins)I wish I was joking

Wow...Yelling those names down the house would have been confusing for all involved! Was Penny the middle name of Sherry? Sherry Penny? Or Sherry Penelope?

Yep, I can image so! Like why did you do such a thing grandma?! And no, haha. Sherry's full name is plain old, Sherry Ann. She received her nickname because when she and Mary "Cookie" were younger, they were inseparable and from what my mother told me, everyone would say "You get a cookie for a penny"
I know it's kinda weird. I mainly know them as aunt Penny and aunt Cookie. It's what they are mainly referred as.

I like nicknames that come about in totally natural ways like that! It's neat! I especially find it great that they ended up with names that didn't rhyme with their sibling haha. Penny is also much better than Sherry in my opinion. Cookie has always seemed embarrassingly weird to go by to me (I've met other ones) so I'm glad she has Mary too :)

Penny is better than Sherry. I absolutely agree. And yeah, although I mainly know her as 'aunt cookie' I definitely can't see 'cookie' as someone's legit name. Haha

This is probably just me, but the first person I think of when I hear the name is Perry Smith, one of the "In Cold Blood" murderers. It's not a good association, as he was a man who had a miserable life as the result of a miserable childhood. Then of course, he was a murderer.Probably more people would think of Perry Como, though.I don't really like Perry, anyway. It sounds wimpy to me. Maybe because it rhymes with "fairy"? LOL, but I think that's why.I like both Warren and Lee much more than I like Perry, but I think Perry goes fine with them.

I like Perry pretty well, actually. It's kind of middle-aged, but with those brothers it fits right in.
The only association I can think of offhand for it as a first name is Perry Mason, and that's not too bad. My stepfather actually went to school with a guy named Perry Mason. This was back in the fifties and sixties when the Perry Mason TV show was very popular, and sometimes people thought Perry was being a smart-aleck or playing them for fools when he told them his name.

I'm not a big fan of it myself, but I think it sounds nice with Warren and Lee.
Other possible associations are singer Katy Perry and actor Matthew Perry.

I'm not a huge fan, but I don't think it's bad. Possible associations are Perry Mason and Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb. I think it goes great with Warren and Lee.
