[Opinions] Janice
I kind of like Janice. Do you think it could make a comeback? It was invented in the late 1800s do you find it substantial enough? Janice or Janis?

My husband used to really want us to use the name Janis. He prefers this spelling because of Janis Joplin. I prefer Janice because it's the one I'm more familiar with so seems "right". I hated the idea when he first mentioned it. But I admit it has grown on me. Not enough that I want to use it. And now that I've made him start watching Friends he doesn't want to use it either. But I do like the idea of it for someone else's child. I think it's dated enough it would seem fresh again on a baby, but shed definitely beat the name coming back in a major way by a couple decades.

Have you seen the meme, "OK Janice." Its basically making fun of the annoying middle aged lady in your life. She's the lady in the office that comes to talk your ear off every day about her cats, wears "festive" clothes, and always asks a million questions in the meeting at the end of the day when everyone just wants to go home.

It's very mid century dated and I don't think it will make a comeback until names like Nancy and Sharon do. I don't personally care for it for a human being, though it makes a funny pet name... I knew a bulldog named Janice and she was a riot. It also reminds me of the Muppet and the obnoxious character on Friends. I supposed I prefer Janice over Janis, which despite the Joplin connection, also reminds me more of 'anus'. If pressed I'd say I prefer Janet to either.

It's an ok name, but feels very dated.

Janice is definitely one of those dated names but not one of those hideous ones such as Barbara, Bertha, or Blanche for example. I doubt Janice will make a comeback anytime soon but who knows. If it does, it does. I dislike the spelling of Janis. Hope that one never sees the light of day LOL

queenv, I apologizeI don't like Janice (I'm sorry, haha). For some reason it has always reminded me of jaundice. The spelling Janis is much better in my eyes because it avoids the "jaundice" scenario. It's not my favorite, but I do like Janis.

Oh noooo, my name! Now I have to read insulting comments about it! Just kidding. Kind of, lol. I think it's very hard for people to really objectively judge dated names---the names that are still borne by the middle-aged and old people who are still around---so I will take all comments with a grain of salt. It's my name and I've always said that for that reason I can't judge it objectively. Which is true. But I will add that because I very much like Candice, which is very similar in sound to Janice, that fact makes me think that if I were alive and kicking circa 1930 or earlier, when Janice was fresh and new and not dated, I would probably have liked it.I think it's quite substantial enough.I far prefer the spelling Janice, which is how my name is spelled. My sister-in-law used to spell it Janis, when she sent cards and such, and that really bothered me. I think the Janice spelling looks so much nicer, but maybe that's only because that's how I spell it.It's so hard to say which names will make a comeback. My grandmother Hazel was born in 1906 when Hazel was popular, and her sister Gladys was born in 1902 when Gladys was mega-popular, and now Hazel has made a comeback and Gladys is still nowhere to be seen. So who knows about Janice?I do appreciate the fact that you kind of like my name.

I think Janet is more likely to make a comeback first.
