I've come across one Madeline who used that pronunciation - besides the kids' book series (and later movie). In the States it was refreshing, because it's usually pronounced the same as Madilyn (which is a common spelling here).

I still prefer Madeleine to the others, but I hesitate at the prospect of the nickname Maddy, which I really don't like.
