I always want to pronounce Madeline with the -lyn ending and Madeleine with the -line ending. Probably because of the book/cartoon 'Madeleine', which I loved as a kid and because most Madelines that I know have used the -lyn ending.

I think both Madeline and Madeleine are beautiful names. Unfortunately, I hate the nickname Maddie and the various butchered spellings of the name have turned me off it.

I know a few. I went to school with a Madeline and a Madaline. Working in schools, there were so many Maddies, of both the Madeline /Madelyn and Madison varieties.

It's a fairly common name among college students that I teach in the Southern US (aged 18-22)
