It'd be a curiosity, I think, on a young girl. Kind of like Marilyn, Carolyn, or Charlene itself. I don't really think the datedness matters because it's not a mom name anymore, and the youth of a bearer would make it seem new again.
But I don't really like the sound of it. I like Shireen, and Charlaine, but not so much Shirlene.
I generally don't like -ene endings either because they look chemicalish to me. Rather -een.
Robina ... is ok. I don't really like the sound of it, either. I guess it's better than Roberta, and not worse than Robin, as a baby name.
