[Opinions] Mario
WDYT of the name Mario for a boy?Do you associate it with the video game character? Even though it's a reasonably common name where I live, I still know plenty of people who think of the video game character first.

Every Mario I know in real life is involved with fixing cars. I can think of 4 off the top of my head. They seem to be relatively unreliable and a little underhanded/sketchy.The video game character will always come up, but so what? There's no telling what the famous video game character of the future will be named. You could name your kid an obscure name like Telefaro and in 5 years everyone will associate it with one thing that you never even dreamt of.

No, it's a common enough name that I don't associate it with the video game character at all. That said, anyone named Mario is in for more than their fair share of Super Mario jokes.

It's not common where I live and so yes, I only associate it with the video game character. Oh, and Mario Lopez. And maybe Mario Lemieux. But I don't think it's unusable or anything. It's a nice enough name.

Where I live, people named Mario are typically of Mediterranean descent, though I've only met one or two at most. Both Marius and Marinus are quite widely used by speakers of Afrikaans. I like them both, but much prefer Marinus.Video game character? You mean the plumber brothers? Not really anything I'd associate a living being with.

I do think of the video game first, but I don't think it's a bad association. It works as a fn because it isn't unique to just the character; I can think of other Marios like Lopez (actor), Batali, and the singer.

Video game character all the way, sorry.

I have a negative personal association with this name. It's common-ish in Italy. But I don't know if, outside of Latin countries, people are going to associate it strongly with the videogame or the stereotype of an Italian chef.
