When I thought Peninnah was pronounced peh-NEE-nah, I liked it as an alternative to the far more popular Penelope (even though it did remind me of "panini"). However, upon learning that it's supposed to be pi-NIN-ah (or pee-NIN-ah), I grew to dislike it immensely. It joined the ranks of Aurora and Lilith as names that are too liquid for their own good.

Check out the comments on the name, Pnina is a common variant and in Hebrew it's pronounced p'nee-na (short space between p and n). Since it's not common in English speaking countries, you could probably get away with pronouncing it peh-nee-nah.

I so agree with this, especially when the emphasis is on the NIN sound which could potentially be shortened to the nn Ninny. Yikes! Just no. Still, there's something about Peninnah that I do find appealing even though it's not something I'd ever use.
It does seem rather mysterious to me and I like the way it looks.
