I prefer Ignatius. I think Ignatius is handsome. It's a "big" name but it's strong and Iggy is a fun and approachable nickname, even if you don't personally use it (others will though).

I like Percival much more than Percy and unfortunately, being the 'Harry Potter' generation (as in you and I and some younger and older), I think many people may associate it with Percy Weasley. I do. I don't know what I thought of it before HP but I think Percy sounds so weak and sniveling and creepy. I don't love Percival but I think it's far and away better in it's full form than Percy.

I like your personal connection to Percy though- so I'd go with Ignatius Percival Stewart if I had to choose. For me, it keeps the handsome sound of Percival and avoids negative connotations some may have with Percy as a nickname and the flow is really nice. Obviously, just what I would choose- whatever is comfy for you and Dave is most important. But I do think you'd be picking a name that is fairly widely actively disliked if you went with Percy- whereas some of your other more old-fashioned and unusual names that are to your taste would have people going more "Huh..." and then they like it because they don't have a strong association with name except "old". I hope that makes sense?

When it comes to just the names without nick names, Ignatius wins hands down. Ignatius sounds strong, mysterious, and cool. However, I detest Iggy. Do you think the nick names Nat or Nate would be too much of a stretch?

Percival is definitely romantic sounding and Percy sounds a lot better than Iggy.

I like both Ignatius and Percival but I prefer Percival nn Percy because it feels more down to earth and approachable. I also like the nn Pip for Percival. In my country Percy is not a slang term as in seems to be in Australia and the UK but I wonder is it anymore of a slang term than the name Peter? Because Peter is a slang term for the male anatomy but that wouldn't keep me from using the name Peter if I loved it.

I've always considered Ignatius more of a good mn rather than a good fn since it is a very serious and steely sort of name. Also just like you said I don't love Iggy, I don't hate Iggy it is just okay and I worry that Ignatius is too much of a name. As someone else said Nate might work as a nn for Ignatius but it is a little bit of a stretch.

Does Stewart need to be the second mn or could it be the first of two mns? Something about saying Stewart just before your surname sounds off to me, I prefer it as the first mn. I think my favorite combo here rearranged would be Percival Stewart Francis A. or Percival Stewart Ignatius A. Having Stewart come before Ignatius makes the combo seem less like a HP reference, I forgot that Percy's mn was Ignatius until people mentioned it.

I also did know the HP connection, but thought maybe it wouldn't be so obvious if it was Percival Ignatius rather than just Percy Ignatius.

I like Ignatius more than Percival, and I also prefer Iggy over Percy.
My favorite combo is Ignatius Caspian Stewart. The others are a bit too heavy.

I love Percival nn Pip DH won't go for it though *sulk*

Percival "Percy" definitely. Ignatius is just to pretentious to me, like celebrity pretentious, where you're trying so hard to stand out you seem self important! Hope that makes sense. I like Percival Caspian Stewart the best.

I don't really like either, I think they both sound quite comical and cartoon-ish and, at least where I live, would have the potential for teasing. I don't mind Percy on its own, but Percival sounds a bit wimpy, and Ignatius makes me think of the word ignorant. I'd also assume an Ignatius was from a Catholic family.

Anyway I would like to remember you that Percival 'Percy' Ignatius Weasley is a Harry Potter character. I'm a potterhead so when I saw those names all together the Weasley Family was my first thought.

Percy is an absolute joke name to me, highlighted by Blackadder's Percy Percy. I tend to like a lot of "snooty British names" type, Rupert, Giles, Nigel, Rafe etc. but I just can't with Percival.

Ignatius is much nicer.

I really prefer Percy to Iggy, and every time I hear Ignatius the possibility of Nate comes up in my head so I am going to have to vote Percival, even though I think Ignatius is more handsome and down to earth.

Percival Francis Stewart knocks my socks off. For Ignatius, I believe Caspian is the perfect first middle name.

Percy is slang for male genitalia. Percival / Percy sound much more heavy and stuffy (i.e. pretentious) than Ignatius / Iggy.
