[Opinions] Re: Castiel
I'm as much of a fan of Supernatural (and everybody's favourite trenchcoated angel) as you can be, but I can't get behind it.It's like naming your kid Gandalf or Sansa or Beyonce. It's cool to be a fan of something, and the name might have had some use outside the realm of pop culture, but at the end of the day you and your child will constantly be fielding questions about it, and it seems like a pretty terrible reason to choose a name. It's like people who get tattoos of celebrities, only for the star to become irrelevant or embarrassing, or for the person to lose interest in them.I know it's possible to hear about the name only in real life as opposed to on TV, as you did. However, in my opinion that doesn't absolve anyone if they use it, because everyone should be putting at least a little research into their kids' name, even if it's just a quick google search.I'd like to note that I don't think every name that has ever been used in pop culture is off limits... that would leave us with a pretty poor selection of names. Just ones that are so heavily associated with one character/person that you can't help but think of them.
