It makes me think of jam, because Hartley's is the leading brand of jam here in the UK!
The founder of Hartley's was the rather wonderfully named (Sir) William Pickles Hartley. Pickles was his mother's maiden name. That's one surname I can't see ever being used as a first name! ;)
As for Hartley as a first name, it's not to my taste, but it's not awful. I've heard worse.
