I taught a young Barbara 'Basia'. She was Ukrainian and she was very sweet.

I think I would skip Barbara and just use Basia on it's own.

May I please query whether Basia is a nick-name you might naturally call a Barbara, and whether it is a better (easier) nick name than Barbie, Bobbie, Barbs, or even Babs? (There is no wrong answer - I am only curious of your thoughts—if you’d please be so kind.)

I've loved Basia ever since I found Basia Bulat's music. I'm rather certain her name is Barbara as well. Basia really brightens up Barbara for me.

Yes. I don't get how it comes from Barbara, but if Hopkin can come for Robert, anything is possible. The spelling Basia looks better though to me.

More than Barbie or Babs, but less than Barb, which would seem a more natural shortening to me.

It's cute. It looks a little like Basho (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsuo_Bashō) and Basie (Count Basie), though.
