[Opinions] Posy
Do you like Posy? Usable?
Replies
Not really.
There's a classic UK children's book called Ballet Shoes about three stage-school sisters, in which Posy is the youngest. It's a nice book and a good association, and the only one I have for Posy as a name. But then there's 'posey' as in pretentious, and 'po-faced', and it's all very well being a sweet little bunch of flowers when you are a child, but it's hard to imagine on a sensible adult woman of mature years, unless she were... a bit ditzy.
In short, I wouldn't use it and think it's probably better as a childhood nn, if anything.

I like it, but only as a nickname.
I adore it! I know it gets a bad response from most on here, but I think it's gorgeous. Definitely usable imo and no different to other floral names. I don't see it as too childish or overly frilly, it's just pretty. I would consider using it myself.
-Do I like it?
Definitely not. Posy seems overly frilly / hyperfeminine, childlike, weak, and insubstantial. I kind of think it would sort of seem out of place on any woman who wasn’t extremely femme in a traditional sense. There are a lot of floral names that would be better, imo.
-Is it usable?
I think so. Posy is definitely NMS but it’s not so terrible that it’s unusable. Most people probably wouldn’t think twice about it.

NO, I don't like it. It's way too cutesy and babyish, and would be sickly-sweet even for a pet.
I think it's silly and unusable. Not quite as bad as Poppy, but almost.
It's growing on me. I think it has more punch than most names with a similar feel. I think it's sweet, but maybe a little too much so. It feels perpetually young, like Lucy.
In my playschool there were twin girls who had English/American parents and they got extra classes in English. Their English teacher taught all the children in my play group how to sing "Ring around the rosie, pocket full of posy", which is my only association with this name.
I don't really like the sound of it. Makes me think of the word "pus". It also sounds a bit like the Swedish word for a (paper/plastic) bag, påse, pronounced PAW-se.

It's very youthful and syrupy sounding. I think it's very fashionable right now (in the UK at least with a million little Poppy, Maisie's and Millie's running around) so no one would think it was too weird, but it just isn't my taste. I can't imagine being a sporty teenager introducing myself as Posy.
