Tindra was pointed out to me in response to the Alva-thread. What do you think of Tindra? It means 'to sparkle'. I think it's kind of cute.
To anyone from Scandinavia, how is it perceived where you live? It seems to have a popularity curve that looks really trendy. Just wondering.

Yuck! It's way too sugar-sweet. I would say it's maybe not considered "trashy", but definitely not classic either.
The word "tindra" is usually used about shimmering eyes, but also about shimmering stars. You can talk about "tindrande barnaögon om julen" (children's shimmering eyes during Christmastime), for example. It's a rather poetic word.

I’m not Scandinavian, so take this with a grain of salt:
Tindra does seem really trendy and “light” to me. The meaning is insubstantial and the sound is cutesy. It seems like it would suit a young kid but would seem out of place on an adult. I really don’t care for it and would personally avoid using this name.

I like the sound a lot (I like *dra in feminine names).
It makes me think of firewood (tinder) and tinsel, so it seems...warm and kitschy.

It sounds like her parents met on Tinder and thought it would be cute to name her after it. I guess it’s better than Plenty of Fish.

It makes me think of the word "tundra" and that's not exactly a positive association. I don't like it.

All I see is tinder, as in the "dating" app. And even without that, the look isn't terrible but I don't like the sound and the meaning isn't anything I'd want either.

I have a co-worker with a daughter named Tindra. I don't like the way it sounds when she talks about her daughter. It just sounds weird.
I know people here don't really like when you use the word trashy to describe names but Tindra is a name I would put in that category.
Also, personally I wouldn't translate "tindra" to sparkle but rather "to shimmer" or "to twinkle". I guess it's not a huge difference but there is a difference.

I don't like the meaning "to sparkle", way too frilly for my taste. Tindra without its meaning feels like trying to combine Tundra and Tinder. It's not the worst name out there, but it's also definitely not the best.

Well I think I've been pretty clear in the past what I think about the name. I hate it. So much. A few years ago I even had a nightmare that my brother and his girlfriend had a daughter and named her Tindra, and that's how much I hate the name.
