Help[Opinions] Birth Announcement- and it’s a doozy!
A friend of mine (who has a daughter named Margot) just recently welcomed a baby boy, and his name, is Caratacus!!! They’ve been calling his Cary (I initially assumed they may use “Atacus” as a NN). And I suspect it was all dads doing ;)

This will probably be one of those situations like “anemone” where people have a hard time saying the syllables in the right order. It’s certainly a bold choice. I’m sure the baby is lovely and it will suit him wonderfully.

That's quite a name... I'm not a fan. I can't get over the similarities to 'cactus' and 'carcass'. I'm fully aware that's a "me" issue but still...

Uhhh, wow. That's... yeah, that's some name! I had to train myself not to read "Cactuses" in the OP. And the original Celtic is the name that always makes me think of "Care of tacos," lol!

Both children are very medically involved so I think his name will be the least of his worries in life

It might be one of the ugliest names I've come across to be honest. I dislike how it looks and sounds, and the acus ending which remind sme too much of anus. And Cary is equally bad.

I'd never use it because it reminds me weirdly of carrots and pawn shops (karats), but I've loved Caradoc forever, so I'm happy to see other people use it.

The father in the book "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" was named Caractacus Pott, and that's what I thought this kid was named at first. I clearly remember that it's mentioned in the book that the father's nn (or at least what his wife called him) was Jack.
This is the kind of joke name people give their babies in utero, like Peanut or Little Flipper.

It's great, I like it. It does seem like a name a dad would pick for a first son.
I can think of several nicknames off the top of my head, that might be fun, depending on what sort of guy Caratacus is. Cary seems really bland and unnatural (although I like Cary, just not so much as a nick for Caratacus) and Atacus is dumb because it's one of those things where people try to have it two ways. I think I'd just enjoy being able to refer to / call him by Caratacus until he was old enough to appreciate nicknames.

I'm torn between thinking it's cool and thinking that it reminds me of the words "cataracts" and "cactus." Oh well I bet he will be the only Caratacus in his elementary school.
