[Opinions] Larelle
I just discovered that my Great-Grandfather on my mother's side (Grandfather's father) middle name was 'Larelle' (George Larelle) You can say that the name caught me off guard. Not a name I would have ever expected.
Curious to know everyone's thoughts.

I'd assume it was his mother's maiden name. People used to do that a lot.

I guess it would make sense but no, his mothers maiden name was Crane or, at least from what I was told.

I had a great uncle named Estelle. It was pronounced ES-tel, but spelled just like the female name. He would have been born in the late 1800s.

It seems feminine to me, but maybe it’s not? The most similar name I can think of is the Australian name Narelle.

I hear you on that. I think that's one reason the name surprises me. The 'Elle' part makes it seem feminine both by sound and look. Just...odd.
