-S [2]: Astell Merick Piers Event: Arthur, the 11-year-old Duke of Brittany, has lain claim to the throne of England, backed by King Philip II of France. King Simon has strong support from his people and army to ward off this foreign upstart. Simon and Queen Elspeth had three more children over the past five years, two more sons (thankfully, should anything happen to Prince Miles) named Adam and Amaury, and a second daughter, Gratia (her second name Agnes is another nod to Simon’s deceased mother Matilda).
Shoring up his support, Simon granted his stepmother the Queen Ariane permission to wed the widowed Teodric, Duke of Godart. Being the father of Henry, Caroline’s husband, Teodric will add more men to his forces from both of the Duke’s houses and thus further solidify that region’s aid in the war. To everyone’s happiness (including their own) Ariane and Teodric get on well and even had a son! This was somewhat to their surprise given Ariane’s mature age. They named him Astell, and his second name Merick is shared by the King and Queen’s son Amaury, who was born in the same year (another subtle show of support and kinship to the Crown).
Prince Alewyn is chomping at the bit to fight, though Simon has tried to keep him from the main campaign as his brother is just 19 and still new to knighthood.
Prince William, on the other hand, has been engaged to Juliet, Countess of Thibault. Juliet will be of age next year, and Simon could use the support of her father, so the match was agreed upon in delighted haste. Though the third son who should rightly be matched after Alewyn, unlike his brother who has the war to keep him occupied, William has been less interested in fighting and more in loving. (He quit squirehood and scoffed at a position in the Church). Concerned that he would destroy the reputations of the entire female staff of the castle and village girls of Linesi, Simon decided it was time to begin the process of giving him land and a title (and a wife) to lord over and support the kingdom that way instead. Everyone has their talents.
Caroline and Duke Henry have made a match for their eldest son, Hugo, in the Celestine, Vicountess of Restault. They are set to wed in two years when they both turn 18.
Beatrice and Robert have also had three children! They are Theophania, Antony, and Sarah. While she was considered a bit old to be just starting a family, Beatrice enjoys her lively children more than she would have hoped, and in typical fashion doesn’t care what anyone else has to say.
