I dislike it. I also ran into a child Calliope once. My impression is that it's blowsy. Like Ruby... sort of loud and tacky. The O that is supposed to be long, comes out neutral in an American accent - it's ka-LIE-yuppy. (sorry to Callie, Callie is a nice nickname)

I've been trying to see how I say Calliope, sneaking up on myself. It's not a word/name I've uttered more than 5 times in my life, likely.
This will get me a reputation for talking to myself.
(not from the U.S., I'm extreme east-coast Canada.)
I guess you could nick-name someone called Carolina, Callie. If you pronounced it Care-o-LINE-ah. LIke the states, North and South Carolina.
