Help[Opinions] Thoughts on Silas?
Silas is starting to grow on me for future use. I love that its classic, short, and uncommon but still familiar.
In the U.S., would be pronounced SIGH-las but I know that many of my family members (whose second language is English) are likely to pronounce it SEE-las (the Latin way). I personally think both ways sound nice, and I don't mind using them interchangeably depending on the environment.
Opinions on the name? Of the different pronunciations? Which pronunciation sounds nicer/would you be more likely to use?

Love it. I always have. I've only ever heard SIGH-las. I don't care much for SEE-las.

Silas pronounced SIGH-luhs is most intuitive for me. It's a good name - unfortunately I have a bad association that prevents me from using it for real.

I really like the name Silas, it's a great name and a possibility for our DS due in November. Here in Australia its pronounced SIGH-las too, but with my DH's side of the family, who speak Arabic, its pronounced differently, though I can't remember exactly how.

I like it, but not as much as I used to.
SEE-las is at least as good as SY-las, if not better. I think it's fine to use them interchangeably. If the kid has a preference he can pick one, or he can just use both (I know some people who use interchangable pronunciations like Sara/Sarah, Ana/Anna, etc. and it's not too confusing.)

It was always one of my least favorites. It just makes me think of the word 'silo'. There's also something so weird about the way it looks. It seems kind of sharp and mean to me, if that makes any sense. And it makes me think of the horrible character in that book/movie, the one who is always hitting and hurting himself and really strange and evil. The Da Vinci Code, I remember the title now. That is my only association with it because I never met a real life Silas even though I have heard of several.

I’ve had Silas on my list for a while, after hearing it on a character. I like the meaning, and I just found out it’s out of the top 1000 where I live, which is a big plus for me. I think it’s very handsome, not too harsh, but strong and substantial. I say and prefer Sigh-las, I’ve never heard it any other way, but I haven’t heard it much and not outside English speaking countries.
