When Gus and Karen invited their daughters for their 30th wedding anniversary celebration they never expected the celebrations will take the turn they did. The whole family was comfortably seated in the backyard and it was naturally Trix who was the first one to share her news. Handing her parents a neatly wrapped box with a little card saying "This gift will stay forever." she smiled inwardly at the confusing look that her mother gave her father before she unpacked it carefully opening the lid. Karen gasped her hands covering her mouth immediately when she spotted the pair of white baby shoes. "I'm pregnant!" Trix announced promptly. Her words followed by a quiet "Me too." from Ada all eyes turning to her in an instant, before Lin added "Me as well."
"Oh my God." Karen gasped her eyes running from one of her daughters to another, her mind not ready to comprehend the idea that she was going to be a grandmother to three soon.
“How did that happen?” Gus asked out of the blue, stunned as his wife.
“Dad, I thought that by now you’d know how babies are made.” Trix replied cheekily.
Gus laughed, the tense atmosphere quickly gone. “I do smarty pants, but except Lin who has been for obvious reasons floating on cloud number nine lately, I have yet to meet the guys who are responsible for my other two grandchildren.”
“Well, I don’t think you are ever going to meet the guy who’s responsible for this one.” Trix let out a sigh resting her right hand on her still flat stomach.”
“What do you mean Trixie? Is he not going to stick around?” Karen asked her middle daughter.
“No, mom, he has no idea that he is going to be a father.”
“You haven’t told him about the baby yet, sweetheart?” Gus asked.
“I never had a chance to tell him. All I know is that he is named Pierre, we spent a fun night together and he was gone by the next morning leaving me a little reminder.” Trix bit the inside of her mouth her eyes slipping into her lap, although she planned on telling her family about the baby she was still not ready for it, she still had no idea if she was ready to do this all alone. She loved her job, she loved traveling and having a baby would change her life completely.
“Trixie,” Karen spoke softly standing up and kneeling in front of her daughter. “Whatever you decide we will be here to love and support you.”
Her mother’s words started a flood of tears that she has been holding inside for so long, no one ever understood her fears and worries like her mother did. “I don’t know what to do mom. I want this baby, I already love this baby, but I love my work as well and I don’t know if I can juggle both all alone.” She rambled.
“Trix, you’ll never be all alone.” Ada said standing up too giving her sister a hug.
“We are sisters, we can do this together.” Lin added quickly hugging her sisters; Gus and Karen exchanged a content smile upon seeing their daughters supporting each other.
“So that’s one down.” Gus joked as everyone returned to their places his eyes narrowing down on Ada.
“Well, I guess you all remember Jason Hodgins.” Ada said shyly.
“THAT Jason Hodgins?” Trix grinned remembering how that guy was all that Ada talked about in eighth grade.
“Yes.” Ada confirmed her cheeks turning light pink. “We are not dating, another case of one fun night and a little too much alcohol here.” She chuckled softly before she continued. “We might have not planned on this, but he is really excited about the baby and wants to raise it together with me.” She assured her parents.
“The same is true for Carson.” Lin added quickly her eyes moving from her mom to her dad. “This baby was not planned at all, but we are both excited to welcome it to our lives.” She slipped her hands on her slightly rounded stomach that she hid behind the loose top that she was wearing.
“Can you believe it, Gus?” Karen spoke to her husband excitedly. “We are going to be grandparents to three and just mere weeks ago we were worried we might never get grandchildren of our own.”
“This really is the best present you three could have given us.” Gus smiled hugging all three of his daughters.
After the long weekend it was clear that nothing was going to be the same as it was before. Lin has moved in with her boyfriend Carson few weeks later and she was also the first one to welcome her baby. Little Dahlia Carrie Blueberry was born on New Year’s Eve after a pretty uneventful homebirth. Five weeks later Ada welcomed her son, Atticus Leopold Blueberry via an emergency c-section following a thirty-six hours long labor. And finally a week later Trix welcomed her son, Leif Marceau Blueberry leveling up the number of children and grandchildren in the family.
