[Opinions] Re: Maeve
I like it. It seems youthful and fresh to me probably because of its look, but also seems quite classic. I think it would age very well. It's soft-sounding but looks strong to me (probably the 'v') and interesting looking but still simple-sounding and not too tough to spell (e.g. Mairead is a similar type of name and lovely, but the spelling could throw a lot of folks. Mae makes for a cute nickname and so it's a good option for a full name if one likes Mae. Or Ava/Eva/Ave for that matter. You could even swing Eve at a stretch. Also, nothing wrong with naming your little lady after an "intoxicating" warrior queen! I haven't read her myth, though, so hopefully she was more awesomely bada$$ than just plain bad, who knows. ;) Either way, cool name!
edit p.s.: I like it much more than Maven, which I feel like has gotten some hipster trend attention (I have no data to back that up, but I've heard of people using it, which is more than I can say for previous decades). Also, I didn't realize was an Anglicized form of Maeve at all, just thought of it as a "word" name. Anyway, I like Maeve better for sure.

Maeve's interpretation depends on who's telling the myth. Most male-centered versions will say she was a jealous, promiscuous and ruthless queen. Most female-centered versions will say she was a bright and assertive ruler who took control of her own body and territory instead of letting it be controlled by men. There's a good version of her story in the book Maiden, Mother, Crone by Claire Hamilton.
