[Opinions] Solaris
(so-LAHR-is / soh-LAAR-iss)
As a unisex word name. Wdyt, could it work IRL?
Does it seem more masculine or more feminine to you, or neither?

Eccentric, but could be cool.
More likely feminine IMO.

A case can be made for either gender - with the /is/ syllable; Sola, Ola, & Ari (Laurie /Laura / Lara // Risa (phonetically Reeza--or with a long I as in the word 'Rise') are a mere few of the possible the short names immediately available: even a 'Lisa' or 'Liza'.
I like this, as a great many nicknames may come from this that are appropriate with quite little conventional strain.

It doesn't sound like a person's name at all. It sounds like a product, like sunscreen or maybe some new kind of glass that cuts down on sun glare or something. Get a Solaris windshield in your new vehicle for just $2000 extra.
I think of a) Tarkovsky and b) Unix, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as a personal name too; it's interesting and has a pleasant sound. And there's precedent: apparently three people born in the UK have been named Solaris - one with a Russian surname (maybe the parents are Tarkovsky fans?) and two with African surnames. One of the three was Solaris Gloria, which is fairly spectacular.
-ris to me sounds more feminine (Iris, Doris, Charis, etc). But there's also Boris. I think I'd prefer it on a girl though.

Hi noel !!!
Solaris is an unexpected beautiful name!
I have good vibes from it: I love names related with light and Sole (feminine) is currently growing in popularity here in Italy both alone and combined with more traditional names (Maria, Anna, Clara).
Then Solaris have such a steampunk positive vibe imo: there was a documentary for young adults that I used to watch every day when I was a kid with this name.
I think that it is totally masculine while Sole, Solara or Sol are feminine!
