It was my great-grandfather's name. That's where my parents got my middle name, Leopoldo. I've always hated it.

I like the name itself (including the nn Leo) and I'd possibly want to use it in honor of Aldo Leopold, but I worry that it's too tied up with the genocidal maniac and it would be like naming a kid Adolph in honor of Adolph Murie.

I adore Leopold! It's stately but also friendly.

It reminds me of the Bugs Bunny sketch with the composer. It’s okay. I don’t find the “pold” sound sper appealing. I like Leonidas better.

I like it and have considered using it. I also wish that this was my nephew's MN instead of Leonard.

This is Leopold
It could also be used for a human baby, I guess, but it's only a smidge less ambitious than Napoleon or Charlemagne.

Hi Billina !!!I agree with Janan.King Leopold II of Belgium is my first thought. It is a pity because my second link is the movie 'Kate & Leopold' where Hugh Jackman plays the role of a fascinating and romantic nobleman. So this name is strongly linked with aristocracy but unfortunately the real-life link is stronger than the fictional one.

Sadly, that's whom I associate the name with too. I remember we learned about the atrocities Leopold II committed in the Congo in history class.

I think of Leopold II too.

I would shorten it to Leo, Leopold sounds like a name for an older person
