Message: "Beverīna" - Behind the Name

I found an old Latvian baby name book. This was listed, apparently it is rare, but it was used at the turn of the century. It is from a place name in Latvia. I really am digging it. My mother's name is Beverly and thought this was a cool alternative. (BEH-veh-REE-nah).

This is a pretty neat name. I like it, but I don't think I prefer it to Beverly.

I like it, although it reminds me of beaver. It kind of sounds like a name of a character of a kids' book.

It sounds like a supplement for women. Or a birth control pill? "Do not take Beverina if you experience dizziness, rapid weight loss, suicidal thoughts or depression. Talk to your doctor about Beverina."

I think that Beverina is great!!

It has the same Bever- sound but without the annoying-trendy -ly ending.

I like it because it is a perfect variant for Beverly without changing it too much. It seems a natural evolution of it even simplier and steady!

There is a Medieval Dutch name I liked with "Bever" in it, but I cannot remember what it was.

All the datedness of Beverly with none of the familiarity. Bevin is a much better honor name.

I don't like the Bev/Bever sound, though I can see the appeal if your mom's name is Beverly.

I like Severina as a GP.

I like Seweryn (know a few guys with that name since I am Polish and grew up around a lot of Polish people), never been a fan of its female form and especially Severina. The severe part really bugs me.

While extremely young, reruns of TV Show entitled Welcome Back Kotter would broadcast. I HATED the name Barbarino - which was a character name: I just looked into the characters of this TV show: Barbarino would be the last name of the character portrayed by John Travolta.

I really don't like it. It sounds sickly sweet and makes me think of the word,'ballerina'
I think 'Everly' or something would be a better alternative.

I would never use a surname as a first name and Everly is too popular. It has a nice sound and all. Besides, while I love my mother and I like the sound of both Beverly and Everly, I really don't like the meanings of "meadow of the beavers" or "meadow of the boars."
