What do you think of the nicknames Ned or Newt for Nathaniel? I saw an add for a new movie with a character named Newt Pulsifer and thought it might work.

I don't like either of them, or Nate for that matter. I do like Thane and Neil.

I prefer Nate or Nathan as nicknames. Ned doesn’t have much in common with Nathaniel, and Newt seems twee.

I think Newt could work. Ned seems counterintuitive and too strongly linked to other names. To be honest, I prefer Nate to either of them.
