[Opinions] Re: This or that (和 - Japanese)?
Izumi, definitely. I don't like it for a girl much, but on a guy I find it charming.
Yamato just seems old-fashioned as I never hear it used anymore (I could be wrong though), also it's relation to the ancient name for Japan makes it too patriotic and unusable to me.

Baby Calendar has Yamato at 34th for their 2018 data, so it's definitely not old fashioned.https://baby-calendar.jp/special/name/2018/name_yomi_under10

Oh gosh, somehow I missed that. But some old-fashioned names can be popular too, like Frederick. Has Yamato always been popular or has it experienced a recent resurgence?

I wouldn't call the popularity of Yamato a "recent resurgence." From what I can determine from various sources, regarding its usage before the end of WWII, it wasn't really a popular name overall in Japan to begin with. It's worth noting though that a majority of people named 'Yamato' in the Japan passenger lists on FamilySearch came from Okinawa Prefecture (12 out of 17 records), where it is usually written as 山戸, as opposed to 大和.
