Jeanne (pronounced the French way, of course) is my favorite girl name. I love the meaning ("God is gracious"), and my favorite saint is Joan of Arc. I also just think it's a beautiful name. What does everyone think?

It's fine, but I'm really biased towards Jean. :) It's my sister's middle name, but I tend to call her by it (and by Jeanie). While Jeanne is a bit delicate for my tastes, Jean is down-to-earth without losing the retro pizazz--like a really nice vintage dress, you know? :D

I know a girl named Jeanne-Marie. I think Jeanne is a pretty name, with the French prn. anyway.

My grandma goes my Jeanne (her mn), but prn the American way, of course. Having heard it prn the American way my whole life, the French prn sounds too close to the American John for my tastes; however, I do like the French prn in French speaking countries. It just wouldn't sound right where I live. :o) And fast becoming my favorite girl's name is Jeanna, a very close cousin of your Jeanne.

I like it, but I like Joan or Jean better. I dislike that in French Jean and Jeanne are prn the same.

What country are you in? If you're in France or a French speaking country, then I support Jeanne moreso because the prn will be understood, but to people who aren't obsessed with names like this group here, Jeanne may appear to be just a contrived version of Jean, not the French one.

In French Jean and Jeanne are not pronounced the same. The boy's name Jean (=John) is pronounced with an "ah" vowel sound and the "n" is nazalized. Jeanne is pronounced with a short "a" and the "n" sound is normal. It rhymes with English Jan or Ann, "zhan." They sound very different to me.

BTW, I too like (Scottish) Jean and (English) Joan for girls. :-)

My grandma's middle name in french is Jeanne d'Arc - which is Joan of Arc.

Virginians prn Jeanne as jean-ie or genie? Wow...I never knew! My grandma's mn is Jeanne & she prn it Jean. If someone refers to her in writing with your prn, it's spelt Jeannie (which is my bio-mom's fn).

My aunts name (well, mn) is Jean and her best friend is Jeanne and one is prn as Jean and the other is Jean-ie. That's how I would say it if I saw it!

I know of at least 1 other person who does that, too. I'm just wondering how widely that theory of prn is accepted. :o) (You know, just in case I name a theoretical daughter Jeanne).
