WDYT of Lamia, and is it usable in the West? I came across a woman named Lamia and at first thought of the unsightly mythical creature, but then I read that it is of Arabic origins meaning 'shining/radiant'.
When I got past my initial reaction I thought it sounded somewhat elegant and refined, especially on that person.

I can see it being a rather stereotypically African American name, on the order of LaTanya or LaKendra. LaMia.
