Help[Opinions] Thalassa or Thalia?
Which name is better in your opinion?
I honestly love both names equally. They both sound so lovely, but I have some worries when deciding to choose one. Thalassa means the sea in Greek, but I'm worried if the Greeks would think it odd, since it's a direct word from their language. Thalia is a bit more common, I'm just worried about the multiple pronunciation mistakes that will happen in the future.
Please let me know which one you guys like better. Thank you!�

I prefer Thalia. Thalassa immediately makes me think of thalassemia.

Thalassa! I just love how it looks and the imagery it has. I don't really know how usable it would be in Greek.

I agree with persimmon that Thalassa would not be unusual any more in the US but that pronunciation would be a real issue. It shouldn't be but it would be. For that reason I recommended Thalia. It would be easier to pronounce for most people. However I think even so Thalia would be pronounced many different ways. I'm speaking only of the US here.

i think Thalassa would be much harder for others to pronounce than Thalia, at least in the US. People tend to draw a blank at any longer, very different looking names, regardless of how intuitive the pronunciation should be.
a foreign word as a name isn't weird nowadays, especially if it has history as a name. it may also hold more meaning for you if you have any connection to Greek, or even just the sea in general.
HOWEVER i like Thalia better, it rolls of the tongue and is the name of a muse.

Thalia! No contest. It's much more aesthetically pleasing. Wins both in look and sound.

I like Thalia better. I have been a guider for almost 20 years and had a brownie called Thalia a few years ago. No one we met ever had an issue pronouncing it.
