Average name. Maybe sporty and a little dated, like Jason but less distinctly 80's. I'd tend to assume Zander is just Zander, but Xander is probably short for Alexander.
I think every Alexander I've met has been called Alex. I've also met a couple of guys named Sasha/Sascha but I don't know if they were actually short for Alexander or if that was their full name.
