[Opinions] Hedwig
Wdyt of Hedwig?
Replies
It's grown on me. First, I liked Edwidge / Edwige, then at some point, I started liking Jadwiga and Hedvika, too. Now, I like those and Hadewych and Hedwig.
...this coincides with names like Harriet, Hestia, Hadiya, Hadassah, Hallie, Hettie, Heidrun having grown on me...
It does make me think of owls but not in a bad/silly/overbearing way. It's kind of like how Rowena makes me think of ravens.

I like it and would consider using it for a daughter, but with the Hedvig spelling. I once named one of my bunnies this.
Fine in German. In English it just looks comical.
I think it's cute, though I prefer the form Hedvig. I also like the nickname Hedy.
But as wonderful and groundbreaking as the musical is, the reference could still be problematic for a young girl wielding the name, considering what the “angry inch” refers to.
True!

:)
What do I think of? I think of earwigs.
All that comes to mind is Harry Potter's owl. It's a nice association but the name seems better for a character or pet, not for an actual person.

I used to have to wear them when I worked as a Disney princess at kids’ parties, and they were always hot and itchy.
