The notoriously terrible ABCDE.
I personally think the way its pronounced (ab-sid-dee) is... rather passable...ish. So out of pure interest, does anybody have a way of turning ABCDE into a more respectable-looking name with the same pronunciation?

Absidée, with the fake French accent (it'd actually be pronounced ab-seed-eh in French), similar to Desirée?

Honestly I think that's the winning alternative. It looks so much nicer with the Fake French Accent

I don't think it can be turned into a _more_ respectable-looking name. It could be turned into an equally respectable-looking name, though. I don't think it's all that bad. Not my style, but not really all that much worse than any other modern name like Dash or Nyla or Everly, that people like just for the look and sound.
The only reason I can think of to use it rather than something like ... Tqzkg or Kennedy, is that it's *both* the beginning of the English alphabet (something recognizable), *and* pronounced like a name. I'm imagining that people might think Abcde is cool or cute *because* you're pronouncing something that's "spelled right" in an unexpected way. Sort of like the appeal of Chloe with its pronounced E, or Brittany with unpronounced A, or the long I in Malachi, or the silent A in Chelsea, or the silent G in -leigh names and in Reign. If you change it to Absedey or something, then it's really only a sound with no connection to anything. It's like respelling Nevaeh to Naveya. Makes it more complicated, and less meaningful - but a little easier to read.
Abcde "ab-si-dee" reminds me of calling Portland, Oregon Pdx "Puddux" ... or saying out loud "Lawl" for LOL. Or the way kids say "rip" instead of "R.I.P." It's "cute," but not *too* clever, as you don't really have to try to "figure it out." Absidee spelled out seems more contrived and gimmicky - like Etsy (Etc.) - to me.

I just had a moment of dread thinking that, with the hip V, X, Y and Z thrown in there; Vwxyz could rise to become the new boy-name version of Abcde.

I'm afraid I'd have to agree with you actually. The spelling is the whole point of the name...
Hopefully no more parents choose this name for their kids

Regardless of how it's spelled, it's insubstantial and meaningless. I think if someone likes the sound, s/he should choose something with a similar feel and an actual etymological meaning and/or history.

Hm I'm not so convinced. We shouldn't limit ourselves in the creation of new names, but of course we should be conscious of what these invented names look like and if they're at all passable. If the, now infamous, little girl had been called Absidy / Absidee, there wouldn't have been such a terrible reaction and the name would be just as easily accepted as any other name children learn.
Probably more so than quite a lot of genuine and long pre-established but now unknown and unused names.
Not to mention names like Salmon and Curry which have an all too familiar sound to them

I actually like how it's pronounced. The spelling Abcde? Not at all. I think Absidy is the only spelling that works and looks namelike.

Typically in the US only a first letter is capitalized unless it's a name smoosh like MaryJane, so I would assume it was spelled this way.

Regardless of how awful the name ABCDE is (and it is terrible), no child should be mocked or bullied, especially by adults.

As rude and unprofessional and possibly scarring it is for the little girl... I half don't blame them. It's inevitable. For a hot moment, they probably thought the little girl named herself

I still think it's a bad name but a spelling like 'Absady or Absidy' might make it... somewhat more tolerable. Or, if at all.

Perhaps Absidee? Makes it look less like a modern name and like it might have belonged to some ancient culture

True. But it at least would look less obnoxious than friggen 'Abcde' naming your child the first 5 letters of the alphabet. /:
