Isn’t this the name of Kat von D’s Sphinx cat? Strangely enough that’s my first thought. The second is, of course, Beethoven. I picture his crazed head (wild hair and wild eyes). Good name for a pet, not too keen for it on a human.
I don't find neither the "lud" nor the "wig" appealing. It reminds me of the British cartoon from the 70s (called "Ludwig") about an egg shaped shiny gemstone thing that played violin(?) and lived in the forest

It's a very popular name here, from my generation to newborns. I like it alright, but dislike "Ludde" which 99% of them goes by...
Sounds "elderly, tired, but skilled doctor".
Happiest in its native Germany; doesn't export well.
