[Opinions] Lucian (m)
Someone posted about a similar name Luc- which in turn got me thinking about Lucian. I've always admired it and seem to be forever stuck between the dual pronounciations [Lu-Shaan] & [Lu-See-An]. I also like Lucien but I firmly think it belongs to a Francophone surname like Lacroix or Desjardins.
Well, WDYTO Lucian / Lucien ? Which pronounciation do you favour?
Slytherin will help you on your way to greatness!!!

Villainous? I never thought of that...
I only like Lucian pronounced LOO-shən. It's nice, and shortens to Lu, and doesn't have "loose" in it.
I don't like Lucien (agree with you about it needing to be a Francophone name) nor do I like the pronunciation with three syllables that sounds like Loosy-N.

Hah, "loose" doesn't bother me as much as "lotion". Although I think of "Lucy + an" more than "Loose + ian" or "Loosy + n" with the 3 syllable pronunciation. (I kind of luke Luci as a nn for either one, but it also kind of looks like a mom name)
It's weird how people are sensitive to sounds & associations as differently as we are. Every opinion is just one data point.
To me Lucian doesn't sound remotely like "lotion." I'd never have made that connection.
It's only the shan in Lucian, that makes the Loo part tolerable for me!
I can't hear Lucy without hearing the "loose" in it. Righty-tidy (I know it's "tighty" but same sound), lefty-Lucy (loosey).
I've always felt Lucy sounded sloppy because of that.

I vastly prefer Lu-See-An, but I think most people would say Lu-Shan. I have met a Lu-see-an though.
I like Lucian and Lucien. I think Lucien is a little more feminine-looking and more suited to Lu-shan (Lu-see-an seems more likely to be Lucian for some reason). I don't think Lucien needs to be with a French surname, but if I had to pick one I'd use Lucian prn. Lu-see-an.
