It's likable. I've only seen it as part of a double name or as a nickname, but I think it works okay on its own, like Nellie would.

Yes. My name is Jessica-Kate and I grew up being called Jessie until high school when it somehow got shortened to Jess. While I still prefer and think of myself as Jessie, I find it hard to introduce myself as anything other than Jess. I'm glad that my name is slightly different so that I'm not just another Jessica but if my name was legally Jessie then it would still be less common than Jessica and maybe I would find it easier to identify myself as Jessie, are least sometimes.

I love Jessie for a girl. I'd give her a fuller name, like Jessamine or Jessica, though.

It's fine; very Scottish, where it started out as a form of Jean or Janet, not Jessica. So I don't automatically think of it as being short for Jessica - it seems like an independent name. And I rather like it. Perhaps because I once knew a most delightful Scottish terrier named Jess? She had Scottish owners!

It's okay, but I prefer Jesse, for a boy.

I like it as a nn for Jessica

It has a very Scottish feel to it. There is a series of mysteries featuring a Scottish police officer named Hamish Macbeth. There are twin sisters names Jessie and Nessie, described as elderly gossips.

It just isn't enough. Jessica, for instance, is such a pretty name, it's a shame to not even have it in there. Jessie feels frumpy and dull, and it's one of those nicknames that really cries out for a fuller name.
