[Opinions] Orville
Thoughts on Orville? Do you think it's usable?
I'm aware of the Wright brothers association and of Orville Reddenbacher. Do any other connections stand out to you?

Just that is sounds very close to Awful. Awful Orville ... I'd avoid it!
Such an accent difference! Makes me glad I asked, though DH had already shot me down.
Interesting thoughts on -ville. I hadn't noticed that aspect. Thank you!
My association is Orville the Duck and I think the bird in Disney's The Rescuers was called Orville too. It's a very bird-y name to me lol
I'd say no, it's not usable, but perhaps as a middle name if you really want to give it use?

DH shot me down already. Thank you for your input. I'd forgotten about the bird in The Rescuers.
To me, no, it’s not usable at all.
Then again, we love popcorn. We eat it several times a week... so when I hear Orville, first I think of popcorn... then I think “ugh? What an ugly old Man name”... like, he belongs in a nursing home with Harold and Walter and Agnes and Martha.

Harold and Agnes are definitely names I proposed. Laughing out loud they made the list of reasons Orville shouldn't be used, but definitely listening since the answer is unanimous.
Do you know what you’re having yet???
I am having a third boy
Oh gosh, that’s so neat. I have 4 boys myself. Congrats!!!
Oh no! Sorry about that. Lol
I mean... for a middle name, if it’s an honoring name I’d totally be on board with that. :)

It's completely fine. It really is hilarious to me and kind of clarifies my taste.
No, I just think of the brand of popcorn or a man of wealth who lived 100+ years ago. It has a very 19th century feel to it. I don't think the name is very usable today. Not because of its associations (even the ones I'm not aware of) but of the name itself. It may have been perfectly fine to use back in the day but now it Just seems pretenious and geeky.
Pretentious and geeky probably describes me and my husband a little more than I'd like. Thank you for your thoughts!
I keep thinking there was a Muppet bird or cartoon bird of some type called Orville, but I can't place it.
It's usable but I'm not sure why anybody'd want to. It has a weird sound to it. Like a weirdly accented "awful" maybe, or like a medicine. Like Advil but maybe for toothache? Or like a place name.

yes there was Orville the duck, plus the Wright Bros were featured on the Muppets too
